"Canyoning" is an activity based on the descending of torrent by feet or with specific tool. This torrent must have a low capacity, a steep slope and framed in a gorge. In the jump (this is called the overtaking of a high difference) it is used the double rope technique which allows you, once down, to find it from the anchor bolt. Once you start descending you can't go back but just go forward. Sometime you can come across some obstacle such as falls, deep pools which stop the stream. It is not an individual but group sport. When you undertake this adventure you will explore a spectacular and unique world rarely seen by humans. Feel the freedom and leave your worries behind. That's the reason why the climbing is spreading in Central Visayas!

Mabinay is an upland municipality situated 88 kilometers north of Dumaguete City right near the provincial boundary of Negros Oriental and Occidental. It is known by locals and the lucky few outsiders to be the second largest cave system in the Philippines with many undisturbed and uncovered. It is one of the best cave systems in the Philippines with amazing stalactite and stalagmite formations. In this municipality alone, there are close to a hundred or more caves. To date, the South Negros Speleo, Mountain & Cave Rescue team, have only explored approximately 45 caves here in Mabinay. A list of prospective caves that are to be explored this summer, is only accessible when the water is low. Sixty percent of caves explored have subterranean river and many end in siphon. |
